Entering a Team

TEAM INFORMATION BULLETIN

We sincerely invite you to join us as we celebrate year 23 as Investors Group Skate to Care 2010.

"Because MindCare and mental health are at the heart of the matter".

SKATE TO CARE is the major fundraiser for MindCare New Brunswick. Since its inception in 1988, just over $2 Million has been raised by participating teams and caring corporate citizens for worthwhile projects dedicated to mental health. Our objective this year is to raise $150,000 – which represents a goal of approximately $2,000 per team. In support of MindCare's ongoing mission of "bringing peace to troubled minds", dollars raised will be used to meet increasingly critical mental health needs in our southern New Brunswick community. Our focus is on wellness and prevention, thereby dealing with problems before they become crises. We pay special attention to children and adolescents, which represents an investment in the next generation and in our collective future. This year, SKATE-TO-CARE 2010 will be held on Saturday, February 13th, 2010, at beautiful Harbour Station in Saint John from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. Our theme is "MindCare and mental health are at the heart of the matter".

THE SKATE We recommend that each team consist of 12-20 skaters. Teams should also have a Team Captain and a Pledge Co-ordinator who may be additional team members or appointed from amongst the skaters. Distance travelled depends on personal fitness and participants may choose to either walk or skate. As it is a relay, we encourage at least one team member to be on the ice or walking path at all times.

If possible, we ask that youhave all your team memberson handat 10:00 a.m. so you don't miss out on the fun and games that will be runningthroughout the day. Depending on team members’ schedules, the fun and entertainment is continuous but the relay itself requires your having between 4 and 6 skaters on hand per hour. If health or fatigue is a factor, skaters/walkers can do less. We are more interested in safety than in rules. In case of injury, first aid facilities are available onsite and safety equipment is located on the ice.

A Skaters' Village will be set up for your pleasure with marvellous accommodation and food available in your "home for the day". We will have lots of team and individual games and the Skaters’ Casino, run by volunteers from the Rothesay-Kings Rotary Club, will also be in operation for your enjoyment. Watch for more exciting announcements as we celebrate another milestone – our 23nd year of caring about people.

PRIZES

We have excellent prizes for teams who raise the most money. Also, your group could become members of our famous recognition Club 3000 or Club 5000. Prior to the Skate, we will host a number of information sessions to keep you posted. We also offer many suggestions and ideas to help with your fundraising efforts. Prizes are available for the top three fundraisers -- both team and individual. Well worth striving for!!

PLEDGES

Each team member will be given pledge forms to solicit lump sum pledges. Our experience is that it is better to collect your money in advance. Teams also organize fun and profitable fundraising events in addition to collecting pledges. Again, we can provide assistance here. Receipts for Income Tax purposes will be provided to you, to be issued for all gifts over $10.00 or on request. While not compulsory, we encourage teams to raise a minimum of $2,000.00 – always asking that everyone do their best. So many people are depending on us!!

REGISTRATION

Anyone can belong to a team -- co-workers, friends, wives, boyfriends, enemies, etc. We would suggest you aim to have no less than 12 and no more than 20 skaters. The cost of registration is $100.00 per team which helps defray our operating expenses, thereby ensuring donor dollars are devoted to mental health programs and services. For more information, please call Christineat 648-6287 or emailchristine.levesque@horizonnb.ca OR, simply complete our registration form and fax back to us at 648-6002.
